Obviously anyone can, and many do, produce a CD length mix or comp at any time of the year. But this time I'm happy to manage a thread designated to bringing those produced as an end of year comp, together as an easily shared resource.

This is the unofficial swap, if you like, with as few rules as possible.... If you can't enter the main swap, or have chosen not too, then you can still post up a tracklist and download details (open to all, or controlled - your choice), even produce some downloadable artwork if you're keen! I'll post up an updated front post listing participants, and it will work as a tracklist thread with links....

Excepting environmental concerns, I do believe there is something rather fine about the physical act of producing real objects of desire for the 'official' swap. It becomes a real cottage industry, and turns the despised CD format into something rather quaint, homely and celebratory of the whole DIY aesthetic. There is also something interesting about playing the end product, I'm sure that, like me, most of you play the entire CD at least once, before selecting particular favourite tracks, appreciating the flow and tumble of the whole. The download, which instantly throws everything on to your music library, inspires instant editing, pick 'n' mix and a temptation to hit the delete button before the listening even starts.

I guess this will test out everyone's passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the physical CD swap, but something tells me these two entities will sit quite happily side by side!

Now that the Xmas Swap sign up list is open, I wondered if anyone has any suggestions of where would burn 75 - 100 CDs for a reasonable price.

I plan to do them at home but I've got to get my laptop mended and I am worried that Im going to end up running out of time/end up doing them last minute (which admittedly is part of the fun :) ).

It shouldnt be a problem but I just thought I might have a Plan B, just in case.... (I'd hate to miss out and I have managed to get some nice 45s this year, which I'd like to share...)
